I must have been living under a rock in a cave on Mars for the past few years, because I just found out about Black Cab Sessions (they're sort of like La Blogotheque's Takeaway Shows, but in a black cab, for one song in one take).
One of the best ones on there is Grizzly Bear performing "All We Ask".
Below are a bunch of phenomenal performances that warrant being checked out. So hop to it!
1. The Walkmen perform "Red Moon". One of my favorite songs from their '08 album "You & Me".
2. Beach House perform "Heart of Chambers". Which would've been nicer without the drum, but we still <3 them, & "Devotion" is one of my favorite records of the past decade. Seriously, listen to it several times & you will fall in love with it. It's an ideal summer record.
3. Joey Burns from Calexico performs "Not Even Stevie Nicks". This song is flat out beautiful.
4. Annie of St. Vincent with a SICK cover "Dig a Pony" by The Beatles. It's on electric guitar & her vocals get droned out a bit, so really it winds up being better in concept than in practice.
5. And in what is perhaps the crown jewel of everything I watched, Jens Lekman performs "Black Cab" from inside a black cab. It's metariffic (meta/terriffic? eh? eh? you see what I did there?) For real, it's SO good.
There are a ton of other great performances on the site. Go poke around & watch 'em. It's almost enough to make a dude want to become a cab driver. Almost.
