The Boy has been pestering The Girl ALL SUMMER LONG about visiting friends, Joe & Kate, up on the organic farm at which they’ve been interning in Plumas County, CA. Finally, we had a few days off to really make the trip that far north (about a 5-hour drive, without Burning Man traffic) worthwhile.
We arrived to find an empty farm, but were soon warmly welcomed by its keeper, Manuel, and Joe, fresh from a siesta (unfortunately, Kate was in SoCal for the weekend). One of the first things Joe said was “Let’s go pick some dinner!” & we knew from then that we were in for an epic weekend.
We’ve never eaten such fresh fruits & veggies — less than 30 minutes from ground to table! And we doubt we’ll ever be able to eat a regular ol’ city salad again.
The weekend was full of bright & early mornings, heirloom tomatoes, mustard greens & mizuna, hiking in Lassen Volcanic NP, swimming holes, cricket symphonies & exploring the “booming” local villages. The Girl proved herself to be an expert Bee Dodger & The Boy is certified #1 Bear Scat Identifier.
A BIG thanks to Joe & Manuel at Dawn Gardens for sharing this magical place with us. We had a ridiculously awesome weekend…see for yourselves!
