Sock Monkey Confetti

These little guys recently accompanied my resume on a trip to one of my favorite local businesses. They were so much fun to make,
& so cute I almost kept them as pets!

Can you tell I rrrreeeaaaaally want this job?
Why else would I do something so silly to get attention!?

I know the monkeys alone won't do the trick, but at least they got me an interview!

Wish me luck!

p.s. which is your favorite? :)

Botch Yr Name Wednesday

Thanks, Starbucks. You can't even get my FAKE name right! I'm not even sure what that says! LOWO? LOULO? LOSER?!?

At least I have mint green nails and Skateboard Chick wallpaper to make me feel better :)

What should tomorrow's fake name be? Something REALLY tricky!

So Funny, I forgot to breathe...

This sort of thing would have KILLED me in junior high.

Thank goodness I've learned to appreciate self-deprecation in my 29 years...

That's What She Said: Castro Edition

The Scene: Sunday afternoon, driving through San Francsico's Castro neighborhood on our way to our friends' Jonah & Staci's new house.

E: I haven't driven through the Castro in a long time.
P: Me neither...
E: I wonder where Harvey Dent lived.
P: Wait...come again?
E: Harvey Dent. I wonder where he used to live. It was around here somewhere, right?
P: Harvey MILK lived around here, yes. Harvey Dent is Two Face from Batman. He lived in Gotham City.

Then I laughed until she bit my arm. Then I laughed some more.

My girl is frequently hilarious, & it is often by accident. :)

That's What She Said: 2009 In VIEW

Ah, 2009. You've been a good year.

We've had some great moments together, haven't we? First and foremost, You brought me Pete & I fell in love. I cannot tell you enough how happy this has made me! You helped me rediscover why I moved to San Francisco 3 years ago (*gasp*). You introduced me to so many wonderful people. You took me to New York after a 17-year hiatus...TWICE! You took me to Seattle twice in one month. You showed me beautiful Arizona sunsets. You presented a very tough career year & hopefully improved my chances for more success in the coming months. You saw close friends get engaged and marry. You transformed me into a flapper for my 29th birthday. You played me oodles of amazing live music (Grizzly Bear, Devendra Banhart, Japandroids, Neko Case, Animal Collective, No Age, Bon Iver...on & on & on & on). You found us a sweet little apartment that we've turned into a home. You bid good riddance to the mean, ugly, bad juju of 2008...

In short, you kicked 2008's craptastic butt!

As I sit listening to the best albums of the year on KEXP (check it out -- what a way to close out the year), I'm finding it sort of hard to expound further upon just why I liked '09 so much. If you read this blog (DO you read this blog?...Anyone?...*crickets*), you can tell I prefer pictures over prose. So I'm going to use the time instead to put together a little "Best Of" bunch.

2009, you will be missed, but I think I'm going to favor your better-looking younger cousin, 2010, even still.

Love,
Esme

That's What She Said: Jury Duty

Esme: "Do I have to dress up for jury duty?"
Pete: "NO. Are you serious? You can wear whatever you want."

a brief pause as Esme brushes her teeth

Esme, re-enters the room: "It's just that....everyone in the instructional video was wearing a suit."

Pete: *sigh*

That's What She Said: Dinosaurs

Hi. Pete here. One of my favorite things to do is wear Esme out with a litany of hypothetical & ridiculous questions. At first she resists, but if I keep it going, she usually finds a way to one-up even the most random left-field thought I can muster.

My favorite example of this is when, during a quiet moment while driving in the car, she suddenly looked very perplexed & wondered aloud "...how do scientists know what dinosaurs eyes looked like?" After I recovered from the shock of the question, I gave a half-boiled answer about lizards being their descendants & thus their eyes must be like lizard's eyes (which I think is actually pretty accurate). She then dug in further, confessing that the pterodactyl was her least favorite dinosaur. Why? Because it has bad skin. Bad skin! You can't make this stuff up. My girlfriend hates an extinct animal...because it has bad skin. Or, as she put it, "pterodacne".

You be the judge. Does this noble beast have bad skin?
Y or N. Circle one.
